WHOLEHEARTEDLY

The whole thing is out today!

Our entire EP is now available on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, Amazon Music and YouTube Music. We really appreciate any time you’re willing to spend listening to these songs! We worked so hard on them and we’re so proud of the results.

We’d also very much appreciate anyone who might consider coming out to the release event Sunday evening! We’ve got a great band and a great opening act and a bunch of great music, and I think it will be fun. Tickets available at the advance price on LIVE! on Elgin’s website.

Today, I thought I’d give you some brief background on the three songs that we did not release as singles.

Meant to Be

I guess myself and I
Weren’t meant to be

This song is about having the aspect of my personality that goes out and does things, but also having the aspect of my personality that realizes (after the fact, or sometimes mid-activity) what has been done and is absolutely horrified. Guess what? Those two aspects of my personality do not get along with each other.

What If I Left

Don’t let me go back to being quiet
Don’t let me think that I wasn’t worth it
Don’t take away that beautiful music

After a friendly-audience performance that went poorly (I forgot my lyrics and froze) – of Meant to Be, as a matter of fact – I started catastrophizing uncontrollably and began to think that I wasn’t meant to be a singer and should give up on music. After an absolutely epic pep talk from my teacher at the time, I made the decision (obviously) to stick around. And then I wrote this song.

After Love Songs

Yes I promise that there can be love

Adam and I wrote this song together based on Adam’s idea of “…but what happens AFTER the love songs?” We wanted it to feel comfy and hopeful and optimistic but without any toxic positivity; the promise here isn’t that everything turns out alright in the end, but rather that there can still be love (and music) in the world, and in your life, after the love songs have finished playing. Bonus Delicately Off-Balance fact for anybody reading this who didn’t happen to be at our wedding: we didn’t have a First Dance, we had a First Duet.

And that concludes our coverage of the Delicately Off-Balance EP, WHOLEHEARTEDLY. If you’d like to check out the liner notes, they should now (or soon) be accessible though the site menu. Final reminder that we’ll be at LIVE! on Elgin on Sunday, singing our hearts out!
